Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something.
— Simon Pegg

Geek Therapy is a new specialty that focuses on counseling with the specific differences within the geek community in mind.  Often this looks very similar to individual, couples, or family counseling, but with a therapist that has a greater understanding of the types of interests and hobbies that are of interest to the geek community.

Geek therapy is simply a term to indicate that I, too, am a member of the geek community, and I am interested and engaged in many of the same things that other geeks are engaged in.  Often this just means that we have a common interest to bond and talk over, but some clients find that the involvement of geek interests helps to create a more accurate connection to their life outside of the therapy office.

If you are a member of the geek community (or simply interested in watching the occasional episode of Firefly) I encourage you to find a therapist who will understand the world that you live in, and the interests that you have.  Your interests are a part of who you are, and understanding them can have a significant impact on helping you to overcoming the struggles that you are currently facing.
